Kirsti has over twenty years of experience in the counselling field and carries a deep belief in and respect for the individuals and families with whom she works. Honoring her clients’ inner knowledge and wisdom is paramount in the collaborative therapeutic environment she provides.
Kirsti holds a Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology, is a Canadian Certified Counsellor through the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association, and is a Certified Hakomi Therapist through the Hakomi Institute.
“The single most important aspect of the counselling process is the development of a safe and respectful working relationship between therapist and client. It takes a lot of courage for people to walk through the counselling door. I want to ensure the client gets a very good sense of who I am and how I work so that after our first session, he or she leaves knowing they have been heard and understood, and feel positive about our ability to work together.”
As a Certified Hakomi Therapist, Kirsti is able to provide clients the opportunity to experience a mindfulness-based approach in the counselling session. Mindfulness is a gentle, sustained inward focus of attention that assists in the therapeutic process of understanding how core material (memories, images, beliefs, emotional expression) has shaped the clients’ experience.
“Young people and adults alike tell me they feel their voices, feelings, and experiences don’t matter. When individuals understand how experiences in their lives have caused them to develop limiting beliefs about self, they realize that those beliefs have put limits on who they really are and deserve to be. Once we address the limiting belief, healing and change can occur. It is such a privilege to assist someone in their journey of self-understanding and emotional healing.”
Kirsti also provides workshops in the areas of developing positive relationships, understanding angry and hurting youth, crisis intervention and prevention, and is a Teacher Facilitator for the Right Use of Power Institute.
